I'd like to hear some arguments for the best bases in The Long Dark. I'm going to go with Trapper's Cabin in Mystery Lake, and here's my reasoning for that.Inside the cabin there is plenty of storage space, a workbench, and also a fireplace. No predators spawn immediately outside the base. Yes, there are wolves over hills to the east and south, and the bear that can spawn to the south, but I've never opened my door and had to be worried about an imminent attack.

That's with well over 300 days of living in the cabin over multiple characters.Rabbits spawn right outside, giving you access to 600 calories or so per day.Deer (as many as five) spawn directly outside the cabin, to the point where you could easily shoot one without moving 10 feet out the door. There are plenty of sticks (I've collected more than 200 in one go) on the hills surrounding the area. The busted up shed just across the yard provides you with a spot to have an outdoor fire, even in a blizzard. The wind is blocked, so it is the perfect spot to spend time outdoors to fight cabin fever. The knock on Trapper's Cabin (probably the only one) is the fact it is out of the way from most other regions. Besides Forlorn Muskeg, it is a bit of a hike to travel anywhere. I don't mind because I just haul it all back with me, but I get why that would be a deal breaker for some. So, what's your pick for best base in the game, and why?TL;DR - Trapper's Cabin is awesome. Surprisingly, I've found myself spending more and more time in the Fishing Camp.Unlike most of Coastal Highway, it's relatively predator free yet has great access to stuff: super close fishing hut(s), close trapping off Jackrabbit Island, lots of good scavenging in the hills behind, including a predictable bear to hunt, regular deer, and several days worth of native resources to gather (especially reclaimed wood). And don't forget the outdoor workbench! No indoor fireplace, but you can harvest pallets while you burn them with several spots that are partially sheltered from the wind. Tip: Build a fire under the dock to safely harvest the pallets up above. It's probably not going to be your permanent home, but you could easily spend a month there while you explore the rest of the Coastal Highway.

The lone fishing camp cabin was my first base after coming over from Mystery Lake where I was based in the camp cabin for around 2 weeks before moving on. From the fishing cabin I just looted my way in a straight line across the lake going from jackrabbit, misanthrope, and finally arriving at waterfront cottages where I'm currently based now at 37 days.Imo the canadian flag house in waterfront is the best because to me it is the perfect distance to resources.

Waterfront cottages is near the main town but without having to live in fear of constant wolf attacks, it is near misanthrope's bear spawn, on top of a rabbit spawn, and next to rockfall which leads to desolation point. This house also has good storage, an indoor fireplace (which is a must for me), and close enough to the gas station for the workbench. (There is another canadian flag house in Quonset town around the outer edge a bit but it's still too close for comfort imo) If you're a hermit type try out the western fishing cabin it has 2 lockers and decent storage, right on top of rabbits/close to deer/bear/ravine.If you're in Pleasant Valley (which I haven't played on in a while) I prefer staying in the barn over the farmstead. You can just store guts/hides in farmstead basement and come back for it when you need to craft.
Barn has good storage, fire barrel, car which you can sleep in with no bedroll, on top of rabbit spawn, and has outdoor tractors so you can escape wildlife. In Desolation Point I just prefer the lighthouse because who hasn't thought about living in one irl? It has good storage and I like the layout.Ideal fantasy house would be the cozyness and lighting of trapper's, location of waterfront, with the storage of gas station/dam.
