Do not, I repeat do 'not' brace when mounting monsters. The room for error and the potential stamina drain or even damage dealt to you is too high for such a subpar action. If you want to guarantee a successful mount every single time, then when you mount a monster, stab away until your screen starts to change to a different color hue ( sometimes its yellow its usually a darker or reddish color). This is one of the indications that the monsters is going to either buck, smash his body against something, or roar. The 'second' the screen starts changing hue, you jump to a different part of the monster's body and continue stabbing away. Bracing during this time is a waste when that same time could be spent on a different body part, continuing the stabathon. The monster can only buck one part of it's body at a time anyway, so as long as you move before he starts, you're completely safe. This tactic is super easy to learn and master and when done correctly will lead to a successful mount every single time while draining less than a quarter of your stamina.EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention.

In order to jump from one body part to another, flick your left thumbstick in the direction you want to jump relative to the camera. Like, say the monster is horizontal to the camera, you'd flick left or right to jump to the different parts. If the Monster is facing towards or away from the camera, you flick up or down to jump to different parts.

You can rotate the camera while mounting by panning with the right thumbstick to make the transitions easier if there is a part of the body you want to focus or do your finisher on. (for example if you want to focus the tail to cut it off or focus the head or body for extra damage or breaking parts).EDIT2: IG users' move command also comes with a series of slices, which do a bit of damage to the monster but lets be real, are really there to look cool.;)EDIT3: Oh snap, I mounted an Anjanath and it almost bucked me! If the monster jumps his whole body through the air, the dodge won't stop all stamina drain. So in those instances, I guess bracing is the only option. I hate being wrong, but I would hate more if I didn't tell you guys about that.

Some monsters jump.Happy Hunting folks!. I do want to point out a minor note though, is that from what I can tell, it drains more stamina to move than it does to brace. 90% of the time moving is the more beneficial one, but it is probably worth keeping in mind that if your stamina is low, you may want to brace when the monster isn't slamming you into a wall, so that you can be sure to have enough for moving when you do need it.Another minor note, is that it's worth mentioning that if you get knocked off the monster, (at least by slamming but possibly by some other methods), then it's possible to fire a grappling hook and reattach yoursel.
